"He is best who is trained in the severest discipline."

--King Archidamus II of Sparta

We're using the Greek tie-in and analogy to bodybuilding (Biblically, body refers to temple, and building equates to structure, creation, develop), because of its appropriate historical value and because it provides the perfect platform from which to establish a frame of reference and advance upward. So, from this pivotal point forward, our reference to bodybuilding is referred to only in the strictest sense of the constructive and positive. Like the ancient Greeks--and their modern-day counterparts of select bodybuilders & physical culturists of the 30s, 40s, 50s & 60s--we only use their examples as the perfect physique & body ideal to emulate. Their bodies were graceful pieces of human art depicting ideal proportions, symmetry, balance and form. True masterpieces, with each individual one standing on its own pedestal, being judged by its own creator and as art in the eyes of the beholders, is the premise we strive for at Boomer Bodybuilding. We feel it is the perfect model to use for all  baby boomers striving to get in great shape, and in the process of doing so, lose excess (fat) weight, carve and sculpt lean tissue and create a new you, or enhance the old you, and heighten strength, health and general well-being in addition. We will provide you with the tools and plans. You will provide the clay--however it is shaped--and the mindset and effort, just like an artist. And you will create the body masterpiece you desire. You will enjoy the venture, we believe, and  together it will be fun and rewarding.

Socrates, the Greek philosopher premised that an ideal form exists for everything in the universe, and that all things gravitates towards its ideal. This means there is an ideal form--body--for YOU. And the best way to stake your rightful claim is through properly applied bodybuilding. There is no other actual exercise format that so impacts the composition of the human body like bodybuilding. With bodybuilding you can truly be your own body's artist and sculpt the masterpiece of your dreams. And contrary to what some people may lead you to believe, you can also help sculpt the inside of your body in terms of greater health and overall fitness by utilizing a bodybuilding lifestyle and other residual activities.

Socrates further contended that progress is inherent in humankind. And that's bodybuilding's first forte...progress! We like to use Socrates' theory in the modern-day sense by applying Dr. W. Edwards Deming's (mentioned elsewhere in this website) philosophy and directive of...Continuous Improvement. Again, body-building is certainly an endeavor of consistent, positive movement forward. With bodybuilding, you are a contractor for growth.

And this is where the "Greek Connection" gets more personal. I have a profound personal interest and experience with physical culture as it relates to Greek history. I've made several lengthy trips to Europe and Greece in particular, including visits to three of the outer Greek Islands. The majority of all the photos in this website and elsewhere were taken upon my last trip a few years back. I was determined to get into my best shape possible because of the visit--at well over 50--and I did!

It's been said that life's greatest challenge is the pursuit of potential. Although I feel I have yet to reach my true zenith, I felt I went the extra mile--actually around 10,000 to get to Greece from California--to accomplish some personal goals; the most defining, literally, being getting my abs...that highly desirous plateau of achievement, to pop out in chiseled, bold-relief. I sharpened my artistic, sculptor's tools and a semblance of nirvana was reached. And I found out some very revealing things in Greece as a result of my abs, which I will reveal later (in subsequent supplements to this Greek/Connection section, entitled, "Trips & Lessons"--Don't miss it!).

I reached what I like to call a "Body-Fit" condition, meaning my shape was good enough to fully reveal in bathing-suit-ready, unveiling my masterpiece...or, work-in-progress towards that personal ideal. As you will learn, I group elements of my system in numerous "3's", for memory and interest sake. So, under my sculpting masterpiece section, I have two more categories to make up whatever stage a person selects, those being: 2.) "Tone-Fit" &  3.) "Clothes-Fit", listed in (obvious) order of difficulty and accomplishment. Moreover, my Sculpting Success System utilizes three physical models and ideals: 1.) Ancient Greek, 2.) Greco-Roman &  3.) Ancient Egyptian, listed randomly. What these m's & I's share is...bodily ( Vee-) shape, broad (squared) shoulders, smaller waist, defined muscles, and overall body symmetry. What we have added to these historical, ageless models is modern-day eating/nutrition, exercise and supplementation... as it relates (only) to a safe, sensible, drug-free, natural non-competitive approach to bodybuilding.

Another very important aspect my Greek (and Italian) travels provided first-hand was in diet and eating. And this knowledge and further study & application has provided me with the basic guidelines for incorporating a (modified) Mediterranean style approach to (tasty) food and nutrition, the perfect complement to the Sculpting Success System.

We (I) believe that our years-in-the-making simplified system reflects the very best bodybuilding has to offer for carving out an attractive low-fat body, while enhancing your inner health...WITHOUT the extremes and negatives of the newsstand magazine and media's reflection of pro (& semi-pro) competitive, hardcore bodybuilders.** The sculpted and naturally derived physique models and ideals set forth by Boomer Bodybuilding and its system as depicted in both marble and paint, is more in line with what most men can reach realistically...and most everybody--male and female--can appreciate and admire. Honestly--which is the only direction BB, this system (& Jon Meade) will lead you--the great majority of the population cannot relate to the humongous extreme which is the pro (& semi-pro) competitive bodybuilder. This over-the-top physique ideal is crazy and even repulsive to the average Joe and Jane. And most people realize that it would be more important to get the proper drug read-out for success, than it would for training and diet. What's more, most folks have no desire to be a walking, talking muscle-bound pharmacy.

More on this topic of physique ideals & BB's Sculpting Success System  will be covered in the Icon section under...Initial Offering: Phase One, Sculpting Success System & No Delay Ordering NOW. With the next update the Greek Connection will start with a series of segments to both educate and entertain, starting with my first trip to Greece (& Italy, etc.) back in 1976. It will highlight my search for a particular "Hercules" sculpture and some important things I learned about...composition. 'Nuff said.

See ya soon...in Italy and Greece.

** Except for the gym bags full of growth enhancing drugs, I have a keen appreciation for the practice of competitive bodybuilding. The incredible amount of discipline, dedication and persistent hard work it takes to reach that level of development is...surreal! Very few individuals would ever have the tenacity and will power to even attempt such a level of accomplishment. And believe me, the same guys who adorn the victory dias at this high-level drug competition, would no doubt be the same winners if drugs were not in the equation. But they have all bought into the b.s. at their own body's expense. A damn shame. And a pathetic role model. But still, rare individuals indeed. When I was editor of Muscle Digest light years ago, I coined several terms to reflect what I felt was appropriate concerning the age-old question of bodybuilding as sport? My terms: Arty-Sport or Sporty-Art
